Top ten tips - shooting video
By Navigator member Jay Blake, Director, Ichthus Video
1. What do you want to achieve?
Brand awareness, customer loyalty, passing on information – write down your objectives
?
2. Who is going to see it?
Current clients? Prospective clients? Write down your demographic etc.
3. How are they going to see it?
DVD? Memory Stick? Your Website? YouTube?
4. One clear message!
The fewer key messages, the more likely your audience will understand what it is you're trying to get across.
5. Images
Putting together a visual story board will always help get your ideas laid out.
6. Audio
Scripts whether part of the film or voice-overed always ensure a quality output.
7. Music
Think carefully about your choice of music. Use original music or seek license from the owner, as you may have to pay for royalties. Email Ben , Membership Manager at The Marketing Compass if you would like to find out more information about using music within your promotional videos.
8. Style
What is the overall feel you are looking for, Is it fast moving? In a specific setting or mood?
9. Length
Does it need to be short (for a tv ad for example) or have you got a little longer?
10. Budget
From a homemade video to a professional shoot, all videos have a budget. Needless to say that the higher your budget, the more professional your end product will be. Let your production company know your budget and they can gage how creative they can get!
